With the Cavaliere’s new Government the old alliance Berlusconi –
Bush is reformed
Nine months left for Gorge Bush as President of the United States, nine
months in which we are sure that the already splendid relationship
between Italy and the United States will be reinforced, Europe and
America will be even closer.
A certainty that has started and has grown during the first few months
of the Berlusconi Government, thanks to the already strong
international relations that the Prime Minister had already created and
always alimented with passion and absolute attention during his first
mandate as Prime Minister.
Observing the European partners or better the men that lead the
principal European countries, quite a favourable scenery for
relationships with the USA comes out. In France Nicolas Sarkozy has set
aside the anti-American policies of Jacques Chirac. In Germany, Angela
Merkel has taken the place of the Chancellor Gerard Schroeder, an
insufferable man against the war in Iraq. Gordon Brown, the English
Prime Minister defines relationships with the USA as “special
relationships”. The Italian foreign policy seems to be for democracy
and freedom, as the American, both running towards the consecration of
a relationship amongst two countries meaning balance and worldwide
problem solving. Problems that need alliances, synergy, intentional
communities, as well as: loyalty, decision, pragmatism and capability
to be resolved; qualities that both Silvio Berlusconi and George Bush
have in their DNA.
“We are grateful towards the USA”. This is what the Prime Minister
Silvio Berlusconi said during the press conference with the American
President George W. Bush while he was visiting Rome.
The Italian President talked of “total syntony” between Italy and the
USA concerning the Iran issue.
Bush is a friend of mine and a great friend of Italy and has given Rome
the privilege to be the European Capital that he has mostly visited:
“he has honoured us with his presence six times”. “In George W Bush we
have found an ally with whom we have an excellent relationship, as
never before.” Berlusconi said.
George W Bush is “very satisfied” with the role of Italy and
Afghanistan, where it is “fulfilling its international obligations. I
appreciate that the Italian Government has given new instructions for
the soldiers’ use”. Relationship between Italy and the USA are the
result of a common heritage of civilization and values, of interests
and connections that have developed in the last few decades. After the
II World War, for America-that strongly contributed to the
reconstruction of Italy through the Marshall Plan- our country
represented an important ally and a “global partner”, also thanks to
our dialogue and negotiation capacities with the different components
of the international community. On their side, for Italy the United
States have been a guarantee of trustworthy security and an essential
point of reference for the management of the international agenda. From
a political point of view, a solid relationship with the United States
is a fundamental recurring factor of our foreign policy and has always
been considered not in contradiction with the strengthening of European
integration. Italy considers that a strong Europe represents an even
more reliable ally for the United States. The bilateral dialogue is
very strong: Italy and the United States share fundamental interests
and values, founded upon principles of freedom, progress and promotion
of Democracy. The relationship of friendship and collaboration is
alimented also by esteem and reciprocal trust. Washington recognizes
and appreciates – even in public declarations- the strong Italian
effort in multilateral peace keeping missions and fighting against
terrorism. The excellent relationship is also expressed through the
many organizations and multilateral debates to which both countries
participate. From an economic point of view, thanks to the high
consideration that the Made in Italy has in America, the Italian trade
surplus is positive and growing. The development of collaboration in
scientific and technological fields is also very important, aiming to
research synergies through economic and commercial promotion,
specifically on the technological innovation issue. The concept of
Italian way of life is well known by the Americans, being enriched in
time by new suggestions, from fashion to design, including wine and
food traditions, confirming itself even in high technological sectors
too. On the other hand, the Italo-American community, being the 5th
largest national ethnic group, has been a primary element in the
development of cultural and economic connections between the countries,
considering its great dynamism that has allowed it to reach high
prestige economic and social positions.
It is possible and we must grow, this is the message that Italy and
America pass on to each other and that they must both help growth,
increasing commercial exchange that has exponential growth margins,
analyzing economic data that are on the charts, a minute decrease on
the behalf of Italy in the manufactured products market quote coming
from the USA is evident (from 2,3% in 2003 to 2,1% in 2007). Under the
heading, direct net foreign investments in Italy per area and country,
a 50 % decrease appears that is a negative surprise, as Italy does and
should be attractive for foreign investors and for historic and
economic reasons that the territory can offer. Lack of Communication,
or rather it is not sufficient and up to now no one has thought of how
much these 2 countries, Italy and America, can do together. So, who
else if not Berlusconi and Bush can allow all of this to come true?
Mondolibero propose to dedicate the day of 25 April in memory of all
American Allied soldiers died during the campaign of liberation of
Italy. The bill has been sent to the President of the Republic, to the
Prime Minister and to Council of Ministers. Not only to the partisans
that, on the buttresses of the Gothic line, were often an obstacle to
the economy due to their incompetence, the economy of the allies
military actions. Italo Tassinari, the Director of the Magazine
Mondolibero that served the army in the 5th American army and lived the
entire history along the whole Gothic Line, in the OSS military secret
services, in which he was active during the last year of war, with the
unforgettable Guido Bati decorated with Military Value for his
continual examples of bright heroism. Decorated by the command of the
13° British expeditionary force, specifically by the Colonel of the
North Stafford Regiment for its extraordinary services on military and
strategic plans that saved entire units operating on buttresses of the
Gothic Line. In the memory of many military allies who fell in hard
fought battles against the German lines, often as heroes, it is
necessary to put an end to the Italian silence regarding those who died
for our freedom. We ask the Ministry of Defence to underline the
sacrifice of ten thousands of allies in Italy and that rest in the war
cemeteries around our country, where no one, no civil or military
authority has ever felt the duty to bow in front those thousands of
marble crosses, marking many young peoples’ tombs. We must stop the
farce of the 25th of April, attributing the merit of freedom only to
the communist brigades, a farce made up of 60 years of the same old
repetitive commemorative ceremonies with the same old motto “ Italy
born from the Resistance”, especially because it would not have been
born without the allies’ armies, or it would have started as a
proletarian soviet dictatorship. And we would have passed from fascism
to Communism.
IT IS A DUTY OF THE ITALIANS TO DEDICATE THE 25TH OF APRIL TO THE
MEMORY OF THE ALLIES THAT FELL IN WAR TO FREE ITALY FROM THE
NAZI-FASCISTS. “MONDOLIBERO” HAS DECIDED TO PROPOSE to the
institutional organs to share the 25th of APril TO HONOUR THE SACRIFICE
OF MANY OFFICERS , NON COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND SOLDIERS. PEOPLE THAT
SACRIFICED THEIR LIVES FOR THE ITALIANS WHO ARE UNGRATEFUL DUE TO THE
GOVERNMENTS AFTER THE WAR.
We hope that the Head of State, the Prime Minister and the Ministers
can put an end to this injustice that has already insulted the fallen
for over 60 years.
